White mulberry is an impressive tree with wide-spreading branches. The dark green leaves provide nice shade. The leaves also resist the effects of atmospheric pollution well. Originally from southeast Asia, white mulberry has been grown for its leaves that provide nourishment to silkworms. Linked to the secret behind silk making, the tree was considered to be very precious. White mulberry tree leaves are used to treat bronchitis, soothe a sore throat, calm eye and skin irritations and provide relief for toothaches. In traditional Chinese medicine, bark from the tree’s roots is used to calm asthma and reduce swelling.
