Exceptional raw materials sourced from regenerative agriculture

Perched at an altitude of 1,400 meters (4,593 feet) in the French Alps, Domaine Clarins is our open-air laboratory and farm.
Here, we’re directly inspired by regenerative agriculture: we use seasonal plants, which are grown in harmony with nature, and in pure and unpolluted soil, enriched only with natural substances in line with organic farming methods.

At Domaine Clarins, we use traditional techniques – including horse-drawn plows – and minimal technology, to preserve the health of the soil, and create ideal conditions for growing the highest quality plant ingredients for our products.

We use this research facility to study new plant active ingredients, and to source many of the ingredients that are already being used in our products. This controlled, farm-to-jar approach enables us to provide the highest standards of quality, safety, and traceability.

Clarins Research is inspired by nature. Today, 80% of the active ingredients used in our formulas come from a private herbarium of over 200 plants - our greatest asset.

We are always trying to improve the quality and traceability of our supply chains, and continue to give priority to those that respect the planet, plants and people.

Clarins Research has established criteria that any new species joining our catalog must meet, with particular attention paid to sustainable agricultural practices.

Natural derivatives

Traceability and green chemistry

Naturally-derived ingredients are substances of natural origin - vegetable or mineral - which have undergone modifications to provide beneficial properties for the skin. This includes certain active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, delivery systems and agro-sourced solvents.

For these ingredients, we choose materials that are easily biodegradable and whose manufacturing processes respect the principles of green chemistry. We also ensure they can be traced back to the country of origin. For each of these supply chains, we work in partnership with our suppliers to create programs that protect biodiversity and local communities.

Nature first

At Clarins, more than 81% of the active ingredients used are of natural origin. The remaining 19% is made up of synthetic ingredients, which are only used when they are essential to the safety, effectiveness or sensoriality of our formulas. We are always looking for natural alternatives.
