A bush native to the tropical regions of America, senna thrives in full sunlight, producing clusters of bright yellow flowers. The leaves are well-known in traditional medicine for their astringent effect and for treating skin ailments.
Skincare benefits of Senna extract
In cosmetics, senna extract is used to help protect skin from the harmful effects of the sun and has demonstrated a soothing effect following exposure to UVB rays.
Responsible sourcing
Protecting soil and biodiversity is a long-standing commitment at Clarins. Our senna extract is grown in Burkina Faso using sustainable farming practices in line with the requirements of our responsible sourcing charter. Its leaves are collected in line with good practices for the harvesting of wild plants. Just 30% of them are gathered to ensure the health of the plant. Senna can be invasive, so the harvesting sites are managed in order to prevent the propagation of the plant in the cultivated areas.
