Robinia was transported from North America at the time of the conquistadores, and has so successfully naturalized in France, that it is often the first tree to take root on areas of wasteland. This is because the tree is a pioneer species capable of growing on all types of soil, even very poor and exposed soils. A distant cousin of acacia, robinia produces nectar-bearing flowers which are the source of acacia honey, a delicious light gold honey with a delicate floral flavor.
