Tanaka Limonia acidissima

Location: Southeast Asia
This small plant is from southeast Asia, and in Burma, the Tanaka is intimately linked to local life. Every day, and even more so on special occasions, local populations apply a paste made from the plant's bark that they grind using a stone. This thick, white paste is applied to the face as ceremonial make-up and also for sun protection. A more fluid version is made for the body, as a sort of balm to keep the skin healthy. In the west, Clarins Laboratories were the first to show interest in Tanaka powder's ability to keep the skin matte, soften and purify. They were also the first to include this ingredient in skin care products.
