Cocoa Theobroma cacao

Location: Central America
According to Aztec legend, the Cocoa tree was given to man by the god Quetzalcoatl, as a tribute to a princess sacrificed for refusing to betray her husband. From the blood of the young woman, the god created a tree whose fruit contained a wealth of seeds, as bitter as pain, as strong as virtue and as red as blood. Considered holy, the seeds were used to make a fortifying drink with aphrodisiac benefits for the kings who ruled the native people. Since then, scientists have revealed the Cocoa bean's high content of active molecules: antioxidant polyphenols, relaxing Magnesium and stimulating Theobromine. In Delicious Self Tanning Cream, Clarins Laboratories have combined two Cocoa bean extracts: Unsaponifiables of Cocoa Butter (the most precious part of the lipidic fraction) with nourishing, anti-dehydrating and anti-ageing properties, and a Cocoa extract rich in polyphenols with a soothing and anti-free radical action.
